Summary | This project supports the ONR initiative to investigate and characterize the fuel and combustion properties of algae derived bio-fuels. NPS will create and manage a program to develop laboratory scale production of algae derived bio-diesel fuels and to create protocols for the measurement of the characteristics for the pure oils and diesel blends delivered to NPS by subcontractors. Conventional ASTM diesel fuel tests and advanced droplet and combustion measurements will also be made. Requirements and protocols for certification and use in a variety of naval facility applications will be outlined. Advice on improving fuel characteristics and blend composition will be provided to ONR. |
