Summary |
Objective: the overall objective of this project is to coordinate research efforts in Directed Energy (DE), Counter Directed Energy Warfare (CDEW) and Applied Electromagnetics (AppEl) for ONR code 35. Background: High Energy laser systems provide a revolutionary. capability to our naval forces by enabling agile speed of light delivery, precision engagements, and multi-purpose applications (hard-kill, sensing, detection, monitoring, and non-lethal engagement).ONR supports basic and applied research in Directed Energy (DE), Counter Directed Energy Warfare (CDEW) and Applied Electromagnetics (AppEl). The goal of the CDEW and DE programs is to research Science and technology that will lead to systems that protect and defend naval forces against high-energy-laser and high-power-microwave directed energy weapons. The AppEl program conducts fundamental research in electromagnets and quantum phenomena in the spectral range from microwaves to visible light. In addition ONR supports Education and training of future scientific and military leaders in these technology areas. |
