Summary | Professor Paul Kapur will serve on the Department of State's Policy Planning Staff for a period of one year. The Policy Planning Staff provides independent policy analysis and advice to the Secretary of State. The office serves in a policy coordination role, as a think tank, and as a formal dissent channel for the department, providing analysis, policy recommendations, and alternative courses of action to the Secretary. The Staff is comprised of government officials, academics, intelligence analysts, and others to provide outside perspectives on policy issues. Professor Kapur will be responsible for providing subject matter expertise on the Asia portfolio. His duties will include developing, coordinating, and implementing U.S. foreign policy toward South Asia and engaging relevant regional and functional bureaus within the Department of State to ensure integration and coordination of policy with long-term objectives. His experience will enhance his ability to educate military officers and to produce scholarly research about great-power competition in the Indo-Pacific theater. |
