Department | Information Sciences |
Investigator(s) | Boger, Dan C. |
Sponsor | Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory (Marine Corps) |
Summary | UTACC is a system of systems consisting of UGVs, UAVs, and armed Marines. The UxSs will be unarmed. Marines will control the vehicles through standard patrol techniques, generally voice or hand signals. The Marines will employ the UxS as squad members, which operate autonomously. This project is unique in that autonomous operations of UxSs working with humans is nascent. NPS is developing the concept of operations for this system based upon Marine Corps operational doctrine and the required information and data exchanges. At least six thesis students (from curricula 365, 370, and 386) will contribute to this research. Dr. Terry Fong, renowned robot scientist at NASA Ames, will provide technical review and quality control. Carnegie Mellon University will provide the models for human-robot interactions at the current stage of the project. |
