Summary SSC Pacific's Graph Database Approach project addresses an operational need for better integration of disparate data sources in support of network operations decision-making. NPS has been asked to take on an advisory role in the use of model-based systems engineering for this project.
In support of this project, NPS (with input from SSC Pacific) will develop architecture models in the systems engineering tool CORE consisting of a context (showing graph database in its environment) and first level description of functionality for the graph database in IDEF0 notation, and one sample executable use case thread in EFFBD notation. These models are intended for use in 1) documenting the proposed high-level architecture, and 2) architecture verification and validation activities, such as eliciting additional requirements or corrections from potential graph database operators and other stakeholders. The models delivered may be used by SSC Pacific as a starting point for more developing more detailed models, while illustrating a model-based approach to designing systems. NPS will also show interested SSC Pacific graph database project team members, to the extend possible, how to develop these models, also provide advice on how to use and further develop the deliverables to maximize their usefulness and likelihood of adoption.
