Back Energy Systems Technical Evaluation Program (ESTEP): Quickstarts
Fiscal Year | 2012 |
Division | Graduate School of Engineering & Applied Science |
Department | Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering |
Investigator(s) | Gannon, Anthony J. |
Sponsor | Office of Naval Research (Navy) |
Summary |
The Energy Systems Technical Evaluation Program (ESTEP) focuses on technical demonstrations of technologies that will reduce the Navy's energy costs. Two tasks are required to start quickly. Task 1: The initial wind turbines required for the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) participation of the ESTEP program will be installed. The wind turbines will drive chillers to provide off-grid grid facilities and data center cooling. Once the first unit is installed it should be a routine matter to add additional ones and this quickstart funding will greatly enhance that process. Task 2: The losses associated with the installation of gas-turbines on Naval vessels will be investigated. Methods to reduce these losses through the use of turning vanes, low loss educator nozzles and mixing tubes will be investigated. |
