Summary | Develop designs for high energy laser (HEL) weapon systems, including near-term systems based on solid state lasers (SSLs) and future systems based on free electron lasers (FELs). Develop simulations of HEL weapons and use them to predict the performance of various designs. Study integration of HEL weapons onto naval platforms, including power requirements and energy storage systems. Investigate HEL propagation through the atmosphere in various weather conditions, including effects such as absorption, scattering and thermal blooming at various laser wavelengths and power levels. |
