On 22 August 2019 in Glasgow Hall, Room 322 (1200-1330), Dr. Asma Shakir Khawaja will discuss her book, Shaking Hands with Clenched Fists: The Grand Trunk Road to Confidence Building Measures between Pakistan and India. Her book is the first academic account of Pakistan's position, interests, and perspective on confidence building measures (CBMs) between Pakistan and India. Her research examines Pakistan’s intentions and policies aimed at forging peace with India at various points in history and seeks to offer a constructive future perspective for CBMs on the subcontinent.
Dr. Khawaja, Assistant Professor, has been a faculty member at the National Defense University, Islamabad, since 2008. She received her doctorate in South Asian studies from Martin Luther University in Halle Wittenberg, Germany, and her MPhil in defense and strategic studies from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad.
