Chaos Theory and International Relations
LT Dimitrios Kantemnidis, Helenic Navy
The issue of using a theory from Natural Sciences to analyze a topic of Social Sciences, is a matter of considerable controversy. This thesis is trying to answer whether or not the theory of Chaos is a universal theory that works for natural and political sciences. Specifically, for the natural sciences we find the theory of Chaos in physics while for the social sciences it exists in the international relations domain. The comparative analysis between the use of Chaos theory in physics and in international relations issues respectively, shows that the latter contains a lot of physical and mathematical violations; these violations are also expanded to other domains of social sciences. The optimistic side of this research is that the international relations analysis can be benefited by imitating the use of Chaos theory by the physicists.
