Overview

Marigee Bacolod is an Associate Professor of Economics in the Department of Defense Management at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS). A labor economist, her research focuses on skills and its rewards in the labor market, and economics of education, including applications to the U.S. military. She has published articles in the Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Human Resources, Journal of Urban Economics, Journal of Business and Economic Statistics, and Demography. Her research has been featured in media outlets such as The Washington Post, The New York Times, and on National Public Radio.

At NPS, she teaches courses and supervises theses in the M.S. in Management and MBA programs. She is also Academic Associate for the Manpower Systems Analysis curriculum and a Research Faculty Affiliate at UCLA’s California Center for Population Research. Prior to joining NPS in 2014, she was Assistant Professor of Economics at UC Irvine, Adjunct faculty at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, Consultant for The World Bank and other NGOs. She earned her Ph.D. in Economics from UCLA, from where she also received her M.A. and B.A. (Summa Cum Laude) in Economics.
