NPS Foundation Introduces New CEO at Quarterly BBQ

By MC2 Nathan K Serpico

The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) Foundation introduced new president and chief executive officer Rich Patterson to the university community during the organization’s quarterly BBQ, July 12. Patterson, a longtime resident of the Monterey Peninsula, was on hand to welcome the summer quarter’s new students.

“I’ve lived in this area for about 27 years, so I’m very familiar with the Naval Postgraduate School and what it’s all about,” Patterson said, who joined the NPS Foundation following several years at Santa Catalina School and the Pebble Beach Company.

Patterson has been involved in the community since moving to the area in 1991, including service on the boards of the Monterey Chamber of Commerce, Monterey County Convention and Visitors Bureau and the AT&T Pebble Beach Junior Golf Association. He says he is looking forward to using his experience to help the Foundation advance its support of the school and its student body.

“We’re involved in raising money for research around campus, and we support student clubs by raising funds for their activities or social events,” he said. “This BBQ is a good opportunity to have people come by so they know what we are doing here.”
