Professional, International Student Body
Our student body comprises young professionals, officers from the five U.S. uniformed Services, civilian DOD employees, international officers, and government employees from approximately 50 countries, and Defense contractors. At GSDM, students receive the education and skills they need for a successful career within the DOD. Our programs foster collaboration and students enjoy a high level of camaraderie and support from their instructors and peers.

GSDM’s diverse faculty comprises individuals from academic, professional, civilian, and military service backgrounds with strengths in graduate instruction and research spanning many domains. With concentrations in acquisition, program management, contracting, financial management, logistics, manpower and systems analysis, and information technology management, the depth and breadth of GSDM faculty defense expertise is unlike any in the country.

GSDM’s research programs support the U.S. Navy and DOD’s capability to managing defense organizations, systems, and processes more efficiently and effectively. Our defense-focused research programs/projects include a balance of both basic and applied research and aim to provide practical, insightful, and valuable understanding of military problems for decision-makers within the Navy and DOD and our academic programs.

As part of NPS, the Graduate School of Defense Management is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). In addition, the Graduate School of Defense Management has the distinction of being one of only a few institutions in the world to have its graduate management programs accredited by both the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the premier accrediting association for schools of business, and the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA), the premier accrediting association for schools of public administration.

The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) provides relevant and unique advanced education and research programs to increase the combat effectiveness of commissioned officers of the Naval Service to enhance the security of the United States. NPS fosters and encourages a program of relevant and meritorious research which both supports the needs of Navy and Department of Defense while building the intellectual capital of Naval Postgraduate School faculty.
