EMBA Program: Frequently Asked Questions
Is it possible to transfer any credits from another institution into the EMBA program?
There is no mechanism (or charter) to transfer any credits from another institution into the EMBA program or to validate courses. Students must successfully complete all courses in the program in order to be awarded their degree from NPS.
Is there a service obligation in connection with the EMBA program?
If selected for this program, candidates incur a continued service obligation for service following completion of the program (or after dropping out of the program if benefits were used) for a period computed in accordance with DON guidance related to time and cost factors.
Am I eligible for the EMBA program if I already hold one graduate degree funded by the DoD?
Priority for admittance into the EMBA program is given to those who have not received a DoD funded graduate degree. However, applicants who have already earned a DoD funded graduate degree are eligible for admittance contingent upon obtaining a Second Degree Waiver, space availablity, and input from BUPERS. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for information regarding how to obtain a Second Degree Waiver.
What days are normally used for EMBA instruction?
Classes are scheduled for Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays starting at either 0700 or 0800 Pacific Time and are delivered in a block of either 6 to 7 hours, depending upon the credit hours for each course.
What is the dress code for class?
The attire is business-casual or uniform of the day. Slacks and trousers, skirts, blouses, sweaters and polo shirts are acceptable. (Jeans and denim, sandals, slippers, t-shirts, athletic shoes, and shorts are not acceptable for class wear.)
What do I do if I have to miss a class?
The NPS faculty teaching in the EMBA will work with students on a case-by-case basis to accommodate those who are required to be unavailable for a class. Potential EMBA students must recognize, however, that frequent absences from class to meet work requirements are not compatible with the instruction methodology of the program and should not apply if they are not confident that their work schedules will support the required commitment to classes and the necessary preparation beforehand.
If I know I am going to deploy within the two year shore duty, will I be able to complete the EMBA program?
Unfortunately, you cannot complete the EMBA if you have to deploy within the 24 month program. Our EMBA program is based upon a cohort model in which students begin studies with a learning team and complete the consecutive courses together with their learning teams. Fundamental building blocks of our program are team learning and team projects which are impeded by sea duty.
