Welcome - Discovery Day at NPS
UPDATE! Registration is now Open and will close April 8. By April 15, we will need a final list of adult attendees, numbers of pre-purchased lunches, numbers of buses, etc.
We are very excited to announce that on Friday, May 13, 2022, the Naval Postgraduate School will welcome registered 5th-12th grade students, along with teachers and chaperones, from 9am - 3pm for Discover Day at NPS. The focus areas of this event are:
1. NASA Astronaut, Naval Officer and Naval Postgraduate School Alumnus, CAPT Victor Glover, will speak with students during the day. CAPT Glover returned from his 6-months on the International Space Station on SpaceX’s Crew Dragon on the 2nd of May of 2021. He completed 168 days in orbit and participated in four spacewalks. We are honored and excited to have him be a part of our event. Visit the NPS Alumni Who Reach the Stars Dashboard website.
2. Keeping Our Nation Safe: Educate the community through exposure to the programs and research that NPS conducts in order to keep our nation safe. Students will experience how NPS uses political science, world history, robotics, autonomous vehicles and STEM efforts to help military missions around the world.
3. Military Awareness: Static displays or short descriptions of the roles of each military branch and exposure to our elite special operations forces encourages students to leave inspired by the work of their current and future military leaders.
4. Local History: To reconnect the community with the history of the Del Monte Hotel and the activities of the Naval Postgraduate School, a long time neighbor and community partner
We are focused on breaking down barriers, ensuring opportunities and encouraging STEM education for our local youth. If there are issues or concerns with attending this event, please contact us email@example.com. Look forward to hearing from you.
The Naval Postgraduate School is excited to announce the Rapid Innovation Design Challenge as an experiential learning component of this year’s Discovery Day. Schools and students are invited to envision, develop, and design innovative solutions for ongoing naval challenges. Through engagement with four unique design challenges presented with scaffolded lessons designed to support student learning and engagement, students will be asked to consider how science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) can be used to impact meaningful change for the naval forces.
The Discovery Day Design Challenge is open to students in grades 6-12. The challenge will have faculty and student teams in the local Monterey area competing against each other for a chance to win prizes up to $7,000 sponsored by the NPS Foundation.
If you would like to take advantage of the Design Challenge with your 6th - 12th grade students, we invite you to visit https://nps.edu/web/discover/design-challenge and register by May 1st. Registration for this event is separate from Discovery Day.
