Dr. Darian Lawrence-Sidebottom obtained her Ph.D. in Neuroscience (Washington State University, Spokane, WA, USA) in 2020. Her dissertation investigated the deleterious cognitive effects of insufficient sleep, specifically regarding the role of reduced attention in decision-making errors during sleep deprivation. She has also worked on collaborative projects with investigators from the University of South Australia and University of California Los Angeles exploring the relationships between sleep loss, metabolic health, and performance.

As a recent addition to the Crew Endurance Team, Dr. Lawrence-Sidebottom’s research will continue to focus on human performance under challenged sleeping conditions (e.g., shift work and stressful environments). She is particularly interested in understanding individual differences in resiliency to the negative effects of sleep loss, and aspires to develop individually targeted fatigue countermeasures for use in operational environments.
