Nuclear Strategic Stability in the Asia Pacific

Deterrence is central to US policy and OSD-P's Minerva's research program (topic III). But deterrence in different areas of the world requires crafted attention from area study experts. This study proposes to engage Asian interlocutors to identify understandings and challenges to deterrence and strategic stability in Asia, centering on China and India, but also including Pakistan, Russia, the Koreas, and Japan. Chinese and Indian writings and research on the subjects have surged given continued U.S. emphasis on the concept and developments in those two states' arsenals. Evaluating this work and its implications is of interest to policy makers and scholars alike.
