NPS academic departments are 100% focused on meeting the unique needs of Naval forces, DoD and our allied partners to advance U.S. national security. From applied undersea warfare to space systems engineering, and from cyberspace to the business of defense management, NPS defense-expert faculty prepare our graduates to excel in the contemporary battlespace and lead the future force.

Multidisciplinary military problems require interdisciplinary solutions. Academic Groups at NPS are interdisciplinary in function and responsible for one or more curricula. They are comprised of Faculty from across campus with interests related to the interdisciplinary focus of the Group.

 

Centers title

 

Research and education at NPS each temper the other’s steel—together they forge innovative solutions and intellectual prowess to create the cutting edge of decisive advantage. Research Centers are established at NPS under the auspices of the Vice Provost for Research & Innovation as per NPSINST 3900.2B. Institutes title
Institutes are important to the innovation function of NPS as a nexus of learning, applied research and collaboration with the Fleet and partners. They forge critical connections and their uniqueness lies in the confluence of tactical relevance, technical expertise, analytical skills, and ability to pursue an idea from theory to reality.

Complementary Co-Located Programs title

 

Complementary Co-Located programs are research efforts that include NPS stakeholders, sponsors and communities of interest. These co-located entities are essential to the value proposition of NPS as they contribute to mutual learning and applied research solutions.

 

Unique Research Facilities title

 

The Naval Postgraduate School has several unique research facilities. These facilities have been developed to provide faculty and students with a dynamic research environment to work on problems of special interest to the Department of the Navy/Department of Defense. Classified facilities at NPS allow research up to the Secret Compartmented Information (SCI) level.

NWSI title

 

NWSI serves as a front door for the Fleet and US Marine Corps to working with NPS. It was established in 2020 to coordinate NPS interdisciplinary research and educational response to Naval warfighting needs. Enabling teamwork and collaboration with the NPS ecosystem, NWSI informs, coordinates, integrates, advocates and communicates in support of USN N7 and USMC CD&I requirements.
