Distance Learning Programs

The Systems Engineering Department offers MS, certificate, and PhD degree programs via distance learning.  The Systems Engineering Department has an established track record for delivering technical graduate education via distance learning.  The programs are open to civilian and active duty students in the Navy, Marine Corp, Army, Air Force, Missile Defense Agency, and government contractors.


Systems Engineering Masters Program,  MSSE/MSES (311) ABET Requirements:  

The SE non-resident master's program is a 2-year and part-time program designed for students working full time for the government.  Students entering the 311 program will earn the ABET accredited MS in Systems Engineering provided they hold an ABET undergraduate degree or can establish equivalency, which is evaluated by the Academic Officer.  Otherwise, students earn a MS in Engineering Systems.  All students in the program also earn DAU equivalency for DAWIA training requirements of the Engineering (ENG) career field (SYS 101, 202, 203, and 302).

Master of Science in Systems Engineering (MSSE)

·       ABET Accredited Baccalaureate Degree in Engineering

·       GPA of 2.2 or better

·       Completion of ACQ 101 and 201 (desired but not required)

·       Successful completion of a calculus course

Master of Science in Engineering Systems (MSES)

·       Non-ABET Accredited Baccalaureate Degree

·       GPA of 2.2 or better

·       Completion of ACQ 101 and 201 (desired but not required)

·       Successful completion of a calculus course

Entry Dates

 

Systems Engineering Management Masters Program,  SEM (721) Requirements:  

The Systems Engineering Management (SEM-PD21) program is an executive graduate program for active duty, senior civilians, and defense contractors combining a technical and management coursework to develop students who can lead systems development programs.  The SEM-PD21 program is offered in partnership with MIT's Educational Consortium for Product Development Leadership in the 21st Century (PD21).  It is a 2-year, part-time program and commences with a two-week kickoff at NPS in Monterey, CA.

The following are eligible for this program:

·       US Military Officers*

·       Defense contractors with a GS11 equivalency

·       US Government Civilians with a grade GS11 or above

·       International Students**

·       Baccalaureate Degree (BA or BS)

·       GPA of 2.6 or better

·       At least five years experience directly related to systems development, engineering, acquisition, operations or support. (Requirement reduced to three years for applicants who hold a master's degree.)

 

Lead System Integrator, LSI Certification (232) Requirements:  

The department of Systems Engineering offers a four-course academic certificate in Lead Systems Integration.  The courses are designed to provide graduate level courses for senior government engineers, preparing them to assume positions as Lead System Integrators through the exploration of design and trade-off analyses of SoS architectures, the execution of SoS acquisitions, and the engineering implications to the role of the LSI in contract management.  The four courses are offered by distance learning with the final course culminating in one week onsite executive experience with face-to-face seminars, discussions and exercises.

The following are eligible for this program:

·       Active Duty US Military Officers*

·       US Government Civilians (GS)

·       Active Duty Enlisted Personnel

·       DoD contractors

·       International Students**

·       GPA of 2.6 or better in a technical discipline

·       Minimum of 5 years acquisition experience

 

Systems Engineering, SE Certification (282) Requirements:  

The systems engineering certificate is four-course academic certificate.  Students earning the certificate can continue to the full MS in Systems Engineering.

·       Enlisted Personnel

·       International Students**

·       Baccalaureate Degree

·       GPA of 2.2 or better*

·       Calculus with C or better*

 

PhD SE (581) Requirements:

·       International Students**
