ONR NEPTUNE Challenge Summit

Date: May 21, 2018 to May 23, 2018
Time: Various
Location: ME Lecture Hall, Building 255

Office of Naval Research (ONR) NEPTUNE Challenge Summit will be hosted by the Naval Postgraduate School and the Energy Academic Group in Monterey, CA on May 21-23, 2018.

ONR and students from multiple NEPTUNE universities will come together at NPS in a training seminar supporting the Naval Innovation Process Adoption (NIPA) effort, with a focus on  teaching instructors a new model for solving selected defense-related problems using the Hacking for Defense (H4D) approach. NPS will provide SMEs to help guide the discussion.

What is NIPA? NIPA is hoped to serve as a catalyst for the establishment of a vibrant, connected community of innovators inside the Naval Innovation Ecosystem.

What is H4D?  “Hacking for Defense™ (H4D) is an adaption of best practices from Silicon Valley startups, which results in a disciplined, evidence-based, data-driven process for connecting innovation activities into an accountable system that rapidly delivers solutions to hard problems and overcomes obstacles to innovation.”

What is NEPTUNE? It is the “Naval Enterprise Partnership Teaming with Universities for National Excellence” (NEPTUNE), an ONR-funded project now in its 4th year at NPS. NEPTUNE is a Workforce Development and Energy-focused effort aimed at helping the Navy and Marine Corps discover ways to improve energy conservation, generate renewable energy and implement energy-efficient technologies.
