USMC at NPS - Thesis Proposal Submission Process

I.  REQUESTER SHALL:  The Thesis Proposal shall consist of the following information:

  • I.  Command Submitting Proposal and Point of Contact
  • II.  Title of Proposed Thesis
  • III.  Description/Proposal of Work
  • IV.  Security Clearance Requirements
  • V.  Travel Requirements
  • VI.  Funding Availability
  • VII.  Date Submitted
  • VIII.  Milestones/Requested Completion Date

Also view examples of successful proposal submissions.  "Copy and Paste" a copy of the Thesis Proposal Template from the website, complete the Template using Microsoft Word, and send as an email attachment to the NPS Marine Representative at debarber@nps.navy.mil.

II.  NPS MARINE REPRESENTATIVE SHALL:  Screen Proposal's to ensure they are specific, reasonable in scope (but not trivial), intellectually challenging, and capable of being answered through sound research.  Coordinate with the requester until it meets this educational requirement or advise the requester that the request is not of thesis scope.   

III.  NPS MARINE REPRESENTATIVE SHALL:  Advise the requester that his/her topic has been accepted as a valid thesis topic and provide periodic updates on activity status.  

IV.  NPS MARINE REPRESENTATIVE SHALL:  Disseminate to the USMC student population via email and posting on the USMC student website.

V.  NPS MARINE REPRESENTATIVE SHALL:  Ensure that USMC students are encouraged to work thesis topics requested from external USMC communities.

VI.  NPS MARINE REPRESENTATIVE SHALL:  Will ultimately be responsible for this proposal process and will track/report status of  all topics submitted.
