DTIC's STINET

The Defense Technical Information Center’s STINET database contains citations for and often the full text of defense-related research reports. Coverage ranges from science and engineering to the behavioral and social sciences – if it’s of interest to the military, then it’s probably covered in STINET! STINET includes reports and theses from all of the U.S. military schools and reports from agencies such as GAO, DoD IG, CNA, RAND, LMI and many others. Because it is free to the public, you can continue to use it after you leave NPS, so the time you invest now to learn how to use it will pay off for the rest of your military career.

Have you ever thought about using software to deal with your citations? RefWorks, a bibliographic management tool, is now available to the NPS community! Save your citations, organize them, and create bibliographies from them using RefWorks, which is available on the Library's Databases page. You can use RefWorks to import citations from online databases or you can create your own records. You can then use these records as references in your papers and other documents and automatically format the paper and its bibliography in seconds using a wide variety of citation styles (APA, Chicago, Turabian, etc.). This workshop provides all the information you need to get started using this useful tool.

Staying Current With RSS

RSS is a technology that lets you subscribe to online content using a "reader" or "aggregator" which automatically checks web pages for changes and downloads new content. Instead of going to your ten favorite web sites to see what's new every day, RSS pulls new material from those sites and brings it together in one place for your convenience. In this hour you'll see RSS used to manage academic and personal information overload and get started with your own Google Reader account.

Register for this workshop online  or sign up at the Research Assistance Desk.

Sessions:

  • Tuesday, May 20, 1200-1250 (Stephanie Anabo, Instructor)
