  Don Bonsper, Senior Lecturer

Don BonsperDon Bonsper, Senior Lecturer, is a 1965 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. He studied political science and languages as a Fulbright Scholar in Costa Rica in 1966, and received a Master's Degree in Operations Research from the Naval Postgraduate School in 1970. Prior to his retirement from the Marine Corps on 1 September 1985, Don served in a variety of command and staff assignments including tours in Vietnam, Okinawa, Venezuela, and Panama. He held command positions at the platoon, company, and battalion levels, and completed the Marine Corps Command and Staff College in 1975. He was awarded the Silver Star and Bronze Star medals for service in Vietnam. As an operations research analyst, Don served with the Marine Corps Development Center where he worked in the field of long-range planning. In 1985 he received two awards for professional writing for his series of combat memoirs which appeared in the Marine Corps Gazette. In 2001 he received the Naval Postgraduate School's Rear Admiral John Jay Schieffelin Award for Excellence in Teaching and in 2002 he received the Community Foundation for Monterey County’s Allen Griffin Award for Excellence in Teaching. He joined the DRMI faculty in July 1982 while on active duty.
