  2. Design a distributed course framework consistent with best practices and processes in instructional design as demonstrated in OIDL.
  3. Consider the design of an interactive media element that supports the learning module you create.
  4. Specify methods to assess effectiveness of materials and activities, and student learning in the technology-enabled module created during OIDL.
  5. Develop a strategy for implementing "learner support" in your distributed course.
  6. Conduct a time-on-task analysis from the student and instructor perspectives for the unit of learning (module) developed during OIDL.
  7. Consider copyright, intellectual property and accessibility needs and issues for your course content.
  8. Describe an implementation plan for using the materials created during OIDL, or to complete development of your specific course.
  9. Use the NPS Blackboard learning support system for access to OIDL course materials and to engage in asynchronous learning activities.

Course Format

This course is divided into five weeklong segments consisting of:

  • Weekly online modules (4) that include online and textbook reading, activities, collaboration with colleagues in discussion forums, and assignments to develop materials for your course with review and feedback from peers and the OIDL facilitator.  A ‘Work Week’ is included after Week 2 to permit sufficient time for your development of module materials and your consideration of an interactive media element.
  • Individual consultations, via telephone, with the OIDL facilitator/instructional designer to discuss your teaching and learning plans and to brainstorm ideas of the integration of media into your course.
  • The recommended culminating activity of the course is a Showcase where you share your course materials created during OIDL with colleagues at your organization.

Assignments and activities are given each week. Time required to complete course assignments is generally 6-8 hours per week.
