NPS Ranked Among Top Ten Universities in International Affairs and Development

NPS has been ranked among the top ten universities in the 2006-2007 Faculty Scholarly Productivity (FSP) Index in the International Affairs and Development category (for Security Studies). The FSP Index has been produced annually by Academic Analytics, LLC since 2005.

A collaboration between faculty and researchers at the Stony Brook University and Educational Directories Unlimited, Inc., Academic Analytics LLC compiles and makes available the FSP Index, ranking doctoral programs at research universities in all Carnegie research categories, based on a set of statistical algorithms developed by Dr. Lawrence Martin and Dr. Anthony Olejniczak, that measure the scholarly productivity of faculty using their publications, citations and financial and honorary awards won.

The FSP analysis creates, by academic field of study, a ranking based on the cumulative scoring of a program's faculty using these measures compared against national standards within the particular discipline. Individual program scores can then be combined to demonstrate the quality of the scholarly work of the entire university. When analyzed over time, a full picture of the direction of the program or entire university can be realized. By compiling the individual faculty activity into departmental indexes, one can truly assess the academic strength of a university.
