Dr. Ken Dombroski develops curricula for in-residence, distance learning and mobile education team courses for the Center for Civil-Military Relations and teaches graduate courses on American national security policy, military operations other than war, and the role of intelligence agencies in democracies for the National Security Affairs Department. He developed a peace support operations education and training curriculum for a United States Department of State and Defense Department initiative, the Enhanced International Peacekeeping Capabilities program, currently offered to over thirty countries worldwide. Dr. Dombroski also developed and manages short courses on planning peace operations and intelligence and democracy for CCMR. He has lectured on peacekeeping, intelligence and democracy, and combating terrorism in several in-residence CCMR courses and on mobile education teams.
Prior to his retirement from the U.S. Army, then Major Dombroski was a crisis operations officer in the J2 (Intelligence) element of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. During the first half of his military career he served as a communications and field artillery officer in a variety of troop and staff assignments in Korea, the U.S. and Germany. Following training as a Middle East foreign area specialist, he was assigned to the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization as a military observer and staff officer in Israel and Lebanon. Other assignments included Middle East desk officer in the National Military Intelligence Center, security assistance officer in Morocco, and coalition intelligence officer with the U.S. Central Command during Operation Desert Storm. From 1990 to 1993, he was a military history instructor at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. Among his many military awards and decorations is the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious service and career achievements as an intelligence officer.
Dr. Dombroski earned a B.A. in history from Loyola University, New Orleans, an M.A. in international studies from the University of South Carolina, and a Ph.D. in world politics from the Catholic University of America. His military education includes the Field Artillery Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Foreign Area Officer Course, and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff Officer Course.
Dr. Dombroski has published numerous classified articles on Middle East political-military issues as well as unclassified studies on the aftermath of the Gulf War, an editorial on peacekeeping, and the introduction to the military history of a Civil War artillery unit. He recently coauthored a chapter on intelligence reform and democratization to be published in a volume on civil-military relations later this year.
