Biography
Guido E. de la Vega grew up in Havana, Cuba where he earned a Doctorate in Pedagogy from the University of Havana. In 1961, he came to the United States and attended the University of Miami, where he received a M.A. in Spanish Literature.
He joined the U.S. Army in 1963, and received training at Ft. Jackson, the Defense Language Institute English Language Center at Lackland AFB, and at Ft. Benning. He taught Spanish at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center from 1964 - 1996. In addition to teaching Spanish, he also worked on various curriculum development projects such as the Spanish Basic Course and the Spanish Interactive Videodisc program. He served as the Supervisor for Joint Defense Language Institute / Defense Intelligence School (DIS) Pilot Language/Attaché Program.
Professor de la Vega has taught at Monterey Institute of International Studies, California State University at Stanislaus, and currently teaches Spanish part-time at Hartnell College. He joined the Naval Postgraduate School in 2001. He has served as educational consultant to several institutions and is a member of various professional organizations. He has received numerous awards including the Outstanding Instruction Award from the Kiwanis Club of Monterey.
