October 27, 2006−Monterey, California: Nearly five years after its defeat, the Taliban is lashing out again, threatening the stability of the American-backed government of Hamid Karzai. Can Afghanistan evolve into a stable democracy, or will it become a narco-state and breeding ground for global terrorism?

Thomas H. Johnson, Associate Research Professor, Naval Postgraduate School, will be delivering a talk titled "Five Years After the Taliban: Is This Democracy and Stability?" at the Commonwealth Club on Thursday, November 16, 2006.

The event is co-sponsored by Center for Contemporary Conflict, Naval Postgraduate School, and the World Affairs Council.
