Significant Professional Activities

Jim Ehlert and Ed Fisher, as Program Manager and Deputy for COASTS, conducted the first in a series of CONUS and overseas field experiments in Camp Roberts and Monterey Bay on November 27 through December 3. COASTS-07 is a combined Indonesia-Malaysia-Singapore-Thailand-U.S. research and development effort to test commercial-off-the-shelf Command and Control, Communications Computers and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance technologies to provide real-time situational awareness for multi-national, tactical and remote decision makers in a cooperative environment. COASTS is focused on Maritime Security Operations for 2007 and will culminate with participation in fleet exercises Talisman Saber and SEACAT in the summer of 2007.

H., Hutchins, S., Altbaum, D., Conducted the Trident Warrior 06 Experiment onboard the USS Bonnhamme Richard, xxx Rick Hayes-Roth has been active throughout this period contributing to the architecture development and evaluation for the Cooperative Maritime Awareness JCTD, in support of the technical director at the Naval Research Laboratory.

Marvel, Orin E. taught a short course entitled “DTS 5403 – Systems Engineering for Military Applications”, Temasek Defense Systems Institute, 30 November to 6 December, Singapore.

Mark Nissen was appointed to the Inaugural Editorial Board of the International Command & Control Journal, sponsored by the OASD-NII Command & Control Research Program.

Mark Nissen led a half-day session entitled “Knowledge Dynamics: 11 Principles for Afloat Knowledge Managers” for the Navy Afloat Knowledge Managers Course, San Diego, CA (November 2006).

Mark Nissen had a journal manuscript accepted for publication with no revisions in the journal Knowledge and Process Management.
