Abstract: Scala is an object-oriented and functional language which is completely interoperable with Java. It removes some of the more arcane constructs of these environments and adds instead:
- a uniform object model,
- pattern matching and higher-order functions,
- novel ways to abstract and compose programs.
The result is a language with all the performance of Java, the type safety of Haskell, the web development power of ECMAScript 4, and the conciseness of Ruby.
David Pollak will present the Scala Experience: a tour of language features and how they combine into a powerful way of building scalable applications that interoperate with Java classes and run on the JVM.
