| Executive MBA Program - Program Details
The EMBA curriculum requires completion of 54 credit hours of graduate study over eight quarters of instruction, consisting of 36 hours of Defense-focused core business courses and 18 hours of specialized courses treating DoD financial management and acquisition issues. Students take two courses per eleven-week quarter. Because classes meet during work hours on Navy time, students must have the full support of their Commanding Officer to be admitted into the program.
In addition to weekly class time, the typical EMBA student will need to spend on average 15-20 hours per week on class readings, assignments, and projects.
Students take courses in the following areas:
- Management: Systems Analysis, Managing Change, and Strategy (11 hours)
- Other Management Functions: E-Business, Operations Management, Public Policy, etc. (14 hours)
- Financial Management (15 hours)
- Acquisition and Project Management (9 hours)
The program culminates with a capstone, project-based course (5 hours).
Upon successful completion of the EMBA program, students are awarded an Executive Master of Business Administration degree granted by the Naval Postgraduate School. All costs for this EMBA graduate program (including tuition and travel to NPS) are fully funded by the Navy, with the exception of course books and other student materials that must be paid for by the student.
Officers are assigned a 3100 P subspecialty code (Financial Management - Defense Focus) by the Naval Personnel Command when they are awarded their EMBA degrees.
