VBrick (NAVCAST) Streaming Information
Beginning with the Spring 2008 quarter (commencing March 31, 2008) the VTE class streams and special events will be captured with the V-Brick streaming solution (called NAVCAST) and Windows Media technology.
There are two portals, one for on-campus users and the second for off-campus users. The NAVCAST portal for off-campus users will have the live and archived streams of the VTE classes as well as special events such as graduations, SGL's and special seminar presentations.
Getting to NAVCAST: The URL for the external NAVCAST portal is: http://NAVCAST.nps.edu
Passwords: The NAVCAST portal will require authentication using your NPS provided NT credentials. If you are unsure of your username or password, or have problems logging into NAVCAST, contact the NPS Technology Assistance Center (TAC) for assistance.
Required Downloads:
Internet Explorer users: There should not be any downloads required to view the streams. Firefox users: Your browser may prompt you to install components to view the streams. Install these components as directed.
Connection troubleshooting: The live and archived streaming traffic will both use port 80 which is the standard port for web services. If you are having trouble viewing the streams, things to look at are:
- NAVCAST will not work on clients with Internet Explorer security set to High. The portal will work at any level at or below medium.
Webcastinabox (WIAB) Streaming Information
All VTE class captures and some special events captured prior to March 31, 2008 are captured with the Webcast-in-a-box and RealPlayer technology. These streams are designated with a format type of .ram and/or found on the VTE class portal.
Required Downloads: To play archived streams including past VTE class captures and others found on the WIAB portal, you must have RealPlayer installed on your machine. Refer to the section "Get the Players" to find a link to obtain the Real Media Player.
Passwords: Some NPS Streaming Videos captured with WIAB are password protected and are available to NPS Faculty, Staff and Students only. If the stream you're trying to access is protected and you don't have the credentials, please contact the NPS Technology Assistance Center for assistance. Please be prepared to verify your identity with TAC personnel.
Connection troubleshooting: The archive and live streaming traffic use different firewall ports on your network. The live streams use port 554, while the archived streams use the web server on port 80.
If you can view archived streams and not live, please contact your local network administrator to open port 554. If there's additional questions or problems with connecting to the streams, please contact the NPS Technology Assistance Center for assistance.
