Why Use SharePoint
By eliminating duplicate copies of theses, research proposals, etc., storage space requirements for e-mail servers will be reduced and users who previously had large mailboxes will find the e-mail system to be much more responsive.
Plans for Use at NPS
SharePoint is one element of ITACS’ solution to the rampant growth of server space requirements at NPS. Group sites will enable single copies of working documents to be accessed by individual members of the group, with revisions and backup versions automatically provided. This will obviate the need for multiple copies of documents being sent between members via e-mail, and will save space on ITACS’ servers. E-mail alerts will invite members to make/view changes on the Web at the SharePoint site, rather than sending copies of document files or making paper copies. All information needed for a project, in any format, will be accessible in one spot. Collaboration will be fostered.
