Operations research emerged in the 1930’s as a formal study of military operations, and the U.S. Navy established its first formal program in the spring of 1942. Professor Dave Schrady examines the history of operations research and explains how NPS faculty and student research resulted in the revision of tactics, development of new systems and the documented savings of tens of millions of dollars in the February 2001 issue of ORMS Today.
