What is my responsibility when using e-mail or the Internet to send technical
information? Both e-mail and the Internet provide avenues for technology to leave NPS without
the proper information security reviews (including export control). It is the author’s
responsibility to ensure his/her technical information is properly reviewed before it
leaves NPS, no matter what media is used. This may mean, for example, sending
a draft document to a sponsor for review via SIPRNET or via encrypted e-mail means prior
to its general unclassified release in order to ensure the information’s security.
