A prime vendor is a company that agrees to perform services or furnish materials at a specified price and timeframe for a customer. The prime vendor then utilizes in-house personnel or subcontractors to provide the service or materials to the customer. A subcontractor is an individual or company hired by a general or prime vendor to perform a specific task as part of the overall project.
Many prime vendors are available on Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contracts with the government and are available through GSA.
A prime vendor is a good resource when researching available skill sets and completing the market survey to determine price reasonableness and available competitors.
