Jarad Van Wagoner

Mr. Van Wagoner served eight years in the US Air Force, obtaining the rank of Captain. As a Foreign Area Officer, he served as Deputy Director of the Office of International Programs, escorting US cadets to various countries in Central Asia and Europe. Mr. Van Wagoner earned a BA in Finance at Utah State University and an MA in National Security Affairs - Russia / Eurasia from the Naval Postgraduate School.

As Research Fellow for the Program for Culture and Conflict Studies, Jarad Van Wagoner conducts anthropological and cultural research on Afghan tribe and clan networks. He has conducted significant research in security incidents in Afghanistan.

Mr. Van Wagoner speaks Russian and once lived in Siberia for two years as a missionary. In the Air Force, he traveled extensively throughout Russia, Central Asia, China, and Mongolia. Jarad's research interests include human and health capital in Russia, Central Asia, and East Europe; Russia-NATO relations; security and economic relations throughout the CIS; and tribal and political relations in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
