The Foreign Area Officer Association of Monterey is a professional organization comprised of students from all services who are attending NPS. It includes faculty from NPS’ School of International Graduate Studies as well as liaisons with the Defense Language Institute. Since NPS essentially serves as the crossroads for each military branch’s FAO program, this organization aims to serve as a focal point at which FAOs/RAOs/RAS/PAS can meet.
We hold monthly meetings which include guest speakers, visits from branch career advisors and/or assignment teams as well as offer opportunities for officers to learn from each other how each branch runs their FAO programs. This organization provides an avenue for new and seasoned FAOs to share experiences, seek information and create a network that spans all services, helping FAOs to better accomplish their mission throughout the world.
