NPS Cuts the Ribbon on Historic Herrmann Hall Wings

The gold and blue ribbon whipped in the wind as the Naval Postgraduate School officially dedicated the newly renovated East and West wings of Herrmann Hall, the university’s administration building and part of the historic Hotel Del Monte, in a formal ceremony June 11. Cutting the ribbon to officially open the wings were (left to right) NPS Provost Leonard Ferrari; NPS President retired Vice Adm. Daniel Oliver; District Director for Representative Sam Farr, Alec Arago; City of Seaside Mayor Ralph Rubio; and City of Monterey Mayor Chuck Della Sala. The event capped a $31 million Navy project to structurally upgrade and historically preserve the late 19th century wings to provide 140 modern residential suites for international officer students attending NPS. The project won a federal achievement award from the President’s Advisory Council on Historic Preservation. (Released)

NPS President Outlines the Strategic Plan

NPS President Daniel Oliver presented the NPS Strategic Plan 2007 to a gathering of faculty and staff in Ingersoll Hall June 7. Dr. Julie Filizetti, who heads up the Business Processes Implementation Task Force, arranged the session, which included a Q and A period. (Released)

NPS Holds Spring 2007 Faculty-Student Awards Ceremony

Air Force Maj. Jodi Neff (right) received the Air Force Association Award for Outstanding U.S. Air Force Student from NPS Provost Leonard Ferrari at the Spring Quarter 2007 Awards Ceremony, June 5. "NPS is awesome,” Neff said following the ceremony. “I can't say enough about this place.” (Released)

NPS Professor Receives Top

Naval Postgraduate School Distinguished Emeritus Professor of Oceanography Edward B. Thornton holds a drifter float with self-recording Global Positioning System tracker that measures surface near-shore rip currents. Thornton received the American Society of Civil Engineers International Coastal Engineering Award, the highest award in the field worldwide, for his decades-long research on ocean waves, the currents they create and sediment transport and erosion close to shore. (Released)
