NPS President, retired Vice Adm. Dan Oliver (right), visited the Office of Continuous Learning (OCL) on Friday June 8th. Acting Director, OCL Valerie Moule’ (left) briefed him on the capabilities and initiatives of her staff to include faculty development, Distributed Learning (DL) course design and development, and DL innovation projects. Interim Director, NCR Tom Hazard addressed the National Capital Region’s mission and goals to expand our NCR presence and to assist in delivering NPS’ unique, relevant Education and Research intellectual capital to DoD, Federal and allied partners, in geographically dispersed locations. The Fleet Concentration Outreach Directors from Norfolk Joe Vaughan and San Diego, George Zolla participated in the presentation.
The two directors spoke with President Oliver at length on how to advance DL to the next level to better support the NPS Strategic Plan and noted plans to better align future DL growth by looking at “institutionalizing” the programs. They also updated the president on current plans for restructuring the two offices; which include aligning Outreach and some Program Development activities under the newly established NCR Director.
Following the briefs, President Oliver was treated to a tour of spaces and met with staff. He will attend a demonstration of enhanced learning methodologies and DL technologies in the near future.
