Remote Access: Getting Started

This page provides step-by-step instructions for using the library's proxy server to access licensed library resources from off-campus.  If you encounter difficulties or have questions, please refer to our Remote Access Information page or contact one of the offices listed in the Questions and Help section below.

Step-by-step Instructions

1.  From any internet-connected computer, use your browser to go to the Library's home page (http://www.nps.edu/Library).

2.  From the Library's home page, navigate to the Library page that links to the resource you want to access   (usually either the Article Databases or Browse eJournals page).  If you choose, you may bookmark the Article Databases, Browse eJournals or other Library web page and skip the step of connecting to the Library's home page in future sessions.

3.  From the Article Databases, Browse eJournals, or other Library web page, click on the desired resource.  If it does not have the NPS logo next to it, you will connect directly to the resource, and steps 4-6 will not apply.  If it has the NPS logo [] next to it, you will be connected to a login screen.  (If you are not connected to the login screen when you click on a resource with the NPS logo, refer to the Remote Access Information page for possible explanations and solutions).
 


 

4.  Follow the instructions on the login screen, then click on SUBMIT.

5.  You will be connected to the desired resource. 

6.  If you do not close your browser, you will not be prompted again for your login information.   If you are in a publicly accessible area, be sure to close your browser when you are done so that others can not access the library's licensed resources from the computer you were using.
