Remote Access: Getting Started

The library purchases and provides access to a large number of electronically based commercial information resources. These purchased resources involve software licenses, copyright restrictions and other contractual agreements that require that they be restricted to a specific "valid" group of users. This group is limited to NPS faculty, staff and students (or in the case of our alumni proxy service, to alumni whose status has been verified as such). If you encounter difficulties or have questions, please contact one of the offices listed in the Questions and Help section below.

Step-by-step Instructions

NOTE: If you are in the library or connected to the NPS network via the VPN, you will have automatic access. If you are off the NPS network, you will need to have a library account. 

Your user name is usually your NPS network account name, and your PIN is noted on the back of your Library card or was emailed to you if you are a DL student.

1.  From the Library's home page, navigate to the Library page that links to the resource you want to access   (usually either the Article Databases or Find eJournals page). 

2.  From the Article Databases, Find eJournals, or other Library web page, click on the desired resource.  If it does not have the NPS logo next to it, or if you are on campus or connected via the VPN, you will connect directly to the resource, and steps 4-6 will not apply.  If it has the NPS logo [] next to it and you are NOT connected via the VPN, you will be sent to a login screen. 


4.  Follow the instructions on the login screen, then click on SUBMIT.

5.  You will be connected to the desired resource. 

6.  If you do not close your browser, you will not be prompted again for your login information. If you are in a publicly accessible area, be sure to close your browser when you are done so that others can not access the library's licensed resources from the computer you were using.
