The following section lists indexing and abstracting sources to aeronautics, aerospace, and related disciplines, and covers
both the journal article and technical report literature. Several of the article indexing and abstracting sources listed below
include partial or complete full-text coverage. See especially NASA Astrophysics Data System, and Web of Science. In addition, a growing number of aerospace-related reports produced by the Government and other agencies are available on
the Internet full-text at no charge (see below, especially DTIC and NACA). The Library owns many of these and other reports
referenced below in the print or microfiche formats. The following list of sources referencing or producing technical reports
and journal articles is not comprehensive; consult with a reference librarian for additional resources.

AccessScience AccessScience is the online version of the McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science & Technology [REF Q121 .M21]. Includes full search capabilities, news updates, graphics, bibliographies, biographies, and links to related
web sites, as well as survey articles on aeronautical engineering, space technology, jet propulsion and more.
Aerospace Facts and Figures . Aero Publishers [annual]. 2004-2005 edition online . A handbook which summarizes the aerospace industry. Includes sections on aircraft production, missile programs, air transportation,
foreign trade, and other topics. Data is gathered from both government and commercial sources. [REF TL501 .A2]. Related titles
include Aerospace Statistics , Economic Indicators for the Aerospace Industry , and Year-End Review and Forecast .
Benton, Mildred. The Literature of Space Science and Exploration. U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, 1958. Of mostly historical interest today, this source has 2,274 numbered entries of books, articles and reports on theoretical
and applied aspects of space exploration. Includes author and subject indexes. [REF TL787 .A29]
Cambridge Air and Space Dictionary . Cambridge University Press, 1990. A dictionary of some 6,000 terms, with coverage extending to related areas like physics, acoustics and telecommunications.
A highlight is the 66 "special articles" which describe in greater detail such topics as cosmic rays, Grand Unified Theories,

Concise Encyclopedia of Aeronautics and Space Systems . Edited by Marc Pelegrin and Walter M. Hollister. Pergamon, 1993. This work is a supplementary volume to the larger Systems and Control Encyclopedia (8v.), 1988, ed. by Madan G. Singh, [REF QA402 .S968], with newer material added. It is comprised of survey articles of moderate
length with bibliographies. Examples of articles include "Active Control Technology for Aircraft," "Remote Sensing," and "Satellites:
Adaptive Control." [REF TL509 .C66 1993]
Dictionary of Applied Physics . Edited by Sir Richard Glazebrook. Macmillan and Co., 1922-23. Principally of historical interest today, the Dictionary was one of the first multi-volume physics reference works. See especially v.5, "Aeronautics," pp.1-220. [REF QC5 .G5]
Encyclopedia Astronautica Sponsored by the Friends and Partners in Space, this site is a good source for ready-reference information on astronautics
and related topics.

Aeronautics Literature and Technical Reports
Aerospace Corporation Technical Reports  Selected unclassified, unlimited technical reports written by members of the technical staff of the Aerospace Corporation.
AIAA Electronic Library  (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics) Full-text access (2005-) to AIAA Journal, Journal of Aircraft, Journal of Guidance, Control, and Dynamics, Journal of Propulsion
and Power, Journal of Spacecraft and Rockets, Journal of Thermophysics and Heat Transfer. Indexing to AIAA Books, Meeting
Papers, Journal Papers, and Standards. The AIAA Electronic Library contains more than four decades of technical information
and documents.
Air University Library Index to Military Periodicals Provides citations to military-specific periodicals, with coverage beginning in 1990.
Air University Student Research Papers  This database contains completed research papers by students at Air University since 1995. The abstracts for these papers
are available in html and the full-text of the papers may be viewed using Adobe PDF reader.
CSA (formerly: Cambridge Scientific Abstracts) This multi-database source provides access to a variety of scientific and technical databases. The Aerospace & High Technology
Database, NTIS, and Mechanical Engineering Abstracts files discussed below are particularly relevant for aerospace-related
research.
DTIC STINET (Scientific & Technical Information Network)  Through this database, the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) indexes and abstracts defense-related government-sponsored
scientific and technical reports. This includes areas such as aerospace engineering, avionics, astrophysics, aerodynamics,
and many other subjects. The library owns some of these reports in print, and has nearly all of them available on microfiche.
Public STINET, which is the version linked to here, provides access to all unclassified, unlimited citations since 1975, as
well as a number of full-text documents. Private STINET provides access to all citations since 1975 as described above, plus
citations to documents limited to government and DoD only. In addition, a growing number of reports on Private STINET are
provided as full text. Access to Private STINET is limited to U.S. students, faculty and staff, and requires an individual
password. For additional information on DTIC, STINET and Private STINET, including how to apply for a password, please consult
the library's DTIC Information page.
Ei's Engineering Village 2  Engineering Village 2 offers access to Compendex, CRC ENGnetBASE (Engineering Handbooks Online), and records from the United
States Patent and Trademark Office for information specialists, professionals, and researchers working in the applied science
technical and engineering fields.
IEEE/IEE Electronic Library Online (IEEE Xplore)  This database provides full-text access to over 12,000 publications produced by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics
Engineers [IEEE] and the Institution of Electrical Engineers [IEE]. Included in this database are journal articles, conference
papers and technical standards. Available full-text are a number of relevant conference proceedings, including Aerospace Applications
Conference Digest, Aerospace Conference Proceedings, and Instrumentation in Aerospace Simulation Facilities (ICIASF). See
also Principal Aeronautics Journals (below).
INSPEC  Citations and abstracts to the literature in physics and related areas; electronics and electrical engineering; computers
and control; and library & information science. Covers journal articles, conference papers, significant books, technical reports,
dissertations, and patents. Stands out among scientific indexing and abstracting sources for its depth of coverage and sophisticated
indexing technique. Also indexes areas like systems management and operations research. Compiled and maintained by the Institution
of Electrical Engineers. Coverage begins in 1969.
Jane's Online  The online version of the Jane's publications provides access to full-text reports, articles and image files relating to the
world's armed forces, geopolitics, and the defense and transportation industries. Substantial coverage of aviation and aerospace
includes Jane's Aerospace Discovery, a search portal to over 3 million aerospace-related documents on the Web.
MathSciNet  Provides citations and reviews from Mathematical Reviews and Current Mathematical Publications. Coverage since 1940.
NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics)  The National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) existed from 1915 to 1958 and was the predecessor for NASA. The primary
product of NACA research was the NACA report series, which included Reports, Technical Notes, Technical Memorandums, Research
Memorandums, Annual Reports, and other materials. A large number of their reports have been digitized and are available full-text.

NASA Astrophysics Data System  A NASA-funded project whose main resource is an Abstract Service, which links to the full text of articles appearing in most
of the major astronomical journals. There is also some full-text coverage of conference proceedings; astronomical data catalogs;
and access to scanned astronomy books, including Martin Zombeck's Handbook of Space Astronomy and Astrophysics. For more information

NASA Technical Reports CASI Provides citation and abstract references to reports in the aerospace field. Coverage begins in 1915. Many of the materials

NASA Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL) Technical Reports  The Jet Propulsion Laboratory Technical Report Server is a database of abstracts, citations and full text to over 11,000 technical
reports written by and for the scientific and technical community.
NASA Langley Technical Reports  This database provides access to publicly available online NASA documents covering aeronautical and space science. There are
over 2,000 full-text technical reports, meeting presentations, journal articles, and conference proceedings.
NASA WWW Servers by Center
Rand  Rand produces analyses of a variety of national public policy issues, including defense, international relations and regional
studies, among others. From the Publications page you can search for documents in aerospace and aviation and obtain abstracts

Recent Additions (Royal Aeronautical Society Library) Royal Aeronautical Society Library The Bi-Monthly Library Additions section of the Library of the Royal Aeronautical Society is a convenient source for current
books, symposia, reports and papers. Includes item citations and annotations. Arrangement by topic. To access, click on Library,
then on Products and Services.
Web of Science  The web version of Science Citation Index. Provides journal abstracting & indexing coverage in the physical sciences, engineering
and other areas. Of principal value for its unique citation analysis, which tracks article bibliographies. Includes access
to some full-text articles. Coverage is from 1984.
Aerospace & High Technology Database. Produced by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Aerospace & High Technology Database is recognized as
the premier bibliographic source for pure and applied research in aeronautics, astronautics, and space sciences. Coverage
goes back to 1986 and includes AIAA conference papers, journals, books and international conference proceedings. Many NASA
publications are covered as well. Subject scope includes intelligent materials, fluid mechanics, aircraft design, space technology
and propulsion, aeronautics, astronautics, materials science, engineering, geo-sciences, life sciences, mathematical and computer
science, physics, and space sciences. Also covered are technology development and applications in complementary and supporting
fields such as chemistry, geophysics, communications, and electronics.
Mechanical Engineering Abstracts. Jointly published with Engineering Information, Mechanical Engineering Abstracts surveys and summarizes the worldwide literature
in mechanical engineering, engineering management, and production engineering. Areas of coverage include: Mechanical Engineering,
General; Mechanical Engineering, Plant and Power; Nuclear Technology; Fluid Flow. Hydraulics, Pneumatics, and Vacuum Technology;
Heat and Thermodynamics; Aerospace Engineering; Automotive Engineering; Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering; Railroad
Engineering; Materials Handling.
NTIS. With coverage starting in 1964, NTIS (National Technical Information Service) indexes and abstracts federally-sponsored scientific
and technical reports. In addition to the pure sciences, its coverage includes disciplines such as management, information
technology, and sociology. NTIS duplicates some of the coverage of DTIC STINET below.

UK Aeronautical Publications The Restricted Resources collection includes a sizable number of historical UK reports in the aeronautical area. They include:
College of Aeronautics, Cranfield (notes and reports, 1946-1972); Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (1909-1920); the Aeronautical
Research Committee reports (1920-1937); and the Aeronautical Research Council (reports and memoranda, 1938-1974).
