Chemical Propulsion Information Agency (CPIA) Propulsion Database ( )
The web version of the CPIA unlimited-distribution Propulsion Information Retrieval System (PIRS) and contains over 19,000 citations of unlimited-distribution DoD, military services, NASA, and contractor technical reports and JANNAF and AIAA conference papers covering 25 years of propulsion technology.  Access restricted to qualified U.S. Citizens.



ciao (Columbia International Affairs Online)
 
Provides full-text access to: working papers, conference proceedings, journal abstracts, books, a schedule of events, policy briefs and economic indicators, links and resources, and maps and country data. Coverage begins in 1991.



CQ Budget Tracker (Congressional Quarterly)
 
CQ Budget Tracker pulls together information on one page for the House and Senate version of each appropriations bill. Reporting on key decision points include hearings, markups, amendments and conference coverage. You can track appropriations documents from the draft stage through the conference report. CQ Budget Tracker lets you search the complete text of committee reports, including the charts that hold the most elusive line items. Follow dollar amounts at the account level with CQ's spreadsheet style charts, updated as each bill proceeds through the legislative process.



CQ Homeland Security (Congressional Quarterly)
 
CQ Homeland Security is a one-stop web-based intelligence service offering up-to-date and comprehensive homeland security information. It provides daily news and analysis on the latest homeland security spending and policy issues and access to a special homeland security version of CQ schedules, complete with event dates, times and hearing room locations.



CQ Researcher (Congressional Quarterly)
 
This full-text database provides information on current and controversial issues in areas such as economic, social, political and international affairs. Each report includes historical background, milestones, the current situation and outlook and the pros and cons of each issue. Coverage begins in 1923.



CQ Today (Congressional Quarterly)
 
CQ Today is daily briefing of congressional activity. It provides a wrap-up of the previous day’s entire Hill news in addition to forward-looking reports on all activity scheduled for that day. CQ Today covers floor activity, hearings, all markups and behind-the-scenes developments.



CQ Weekly (Congressional Quarterly)
 
This full-text database provides reports on significant legislation, floor action and major policy issues in Congress. Also included are: roll call votes, presidential speeches, election coverage and more. Coverage begins in 1983.



Credo Reference (Credo Reference)
 
Credo Reference is a source that reference librarians and others use that compiles essential, factual information from specialized encyclopedias, dictionaries and other reference sources.  Credo Reference is written for the interested researcher, not the specialist. It's a great place to start your research.



Declassified Documents Reference System Online (Infotrac)
 
Full-text searchable Web documents range from correspondence and memoranda to minutes of cabinet meetings, technical studies, national security policy statements and intelligence reports. Major domestic and international events from the post-WWII era are covered.



Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships (Haze Gray & Underway)
The Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships, commonly known as DANFS, is the foremost reference regarding US naval vessels. Published in nine volumes (from 1959 to 1991), it gives histories for virtually every US naval vessel. Currently the online collection includes over 7000 ship histories, and more are being added. These files are faithfully transcribed from DANFS, without updating or corrections.

Global Information System (Defense & Foreign Affairs Group)

GPO Monthly Catalog (Government Printing Office)
 
Indexes many of the publications published by the Government Printing Office. When available, links to full text web documents are given. Coverage begins with July 1976.



Homeland Security Digital Library (Naval Postgraduate School)
 
The HSDL is a comprehensive collection of current and archived Homeland Security resources--all in digital format--from federal, state and local agencies, leading national and international organizations, think tanks, universities and more. These resources are selected by the HSDL team of information professionals. CNA's Integrated Ship Database (ISDB) is a collection of ship information from multiple, authorized U.S. Navy and other U.S. Government sources. This page provides access to the most recent database update and to archived updates (each of which includes a cover memo outlining the changes that were included in the update).

LexisNexis offers two major databases for NPS users: LexisNexis and LexisNexis Academic. This database , Lexis.com, is part of LexisNexis, and requires a password to use, available via AskALibrarian. With the Lexis.com part of LexisNexis, users can search for federal and state case law as well as find articles from a huge variety of newspapers, news wires, congressional transcripts, TV and radio transcripts, magazines, journals, business publications and more. LexisNexis Academic (LexisNexis)
 
LexisNexis offers two major databases  for NPS users: LexisNexis and LexisNexis Academic.  This one, LexisNexis Academic is designed with a simplified search interface, uses a targeted subset of LexisNexis, and requires no special password. (NPS users of LexisNexis Academic are proxy-authenticated.) Documents come from a huge variety of newspapers, news wires, magazines, news weblogs, broadcast transcripts and more, and are provided in full-text (ASCII text only, no graphics).  If you need additional information about differences between this product and the larger LexisNexis (as well as the necessary password for LexisNexis) please Ask a Librarian.  



MERLN (Military Education and Research Library Network)
Offers the combined resources of the largest and most comprehensive collections of military information resources in the world.



MilitaryBalance (International Institute for Strategic Studies)
 

The Military Balance is the annual assessment of the military capabilities and defence economics of 170 countries world-wide. It contains region-by-region analysis of the major military and economic developments affecting defence and security policies and the trade in weapons and other military equipment.

Official Documents System of the United Nations (Official Documents System of the United Nations)
ODS covers all types of official United Nations documentation, beginning in 1993. Older UN documents are, however, added to the system on a daily basis. ODS also provides access to the resolutions of the General Assembly, Security Council, Economic and Social Council and the Trusteeship Council from 1946 onwards. The system does not contain press releases, UN sales publications, the United Nations Treaty Series or information brochures issued by the Department of Public Information.



PAIS (ProQuest)
 
PAIS chronicles issues in the public debate through highly selective coverage of a wide variety of sources including journal articles, books, government documents, statistical directories, grey literature, research reports, conference papers, publications of international agencies, microfiche, Internet material and more. The database includes a historical perspective on many of the 20th century's social and public policies.



PILOTS Database (U.S. Deptartment of Veterans Affairs)
The PILOTS database is an electronic index to the worldwide literature on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental-health consequences of exposure to traumatic events. It is produced by the National Center for PTSD, and is electronically available to the public. There is no charge for using the database, and no account or password is required. Although it is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the PILOTS database is not limited to literature on PTSD among veterans.

ProQuest Statistical Insight (ProQuest)
 
ProQuest Statistical provides statistics issued by the U.S. government through CIS' American Statistics Index, back to 1973 and some 1,000 of the best statistical publications of private and state government sources from 1980 forward through CIS' Statistical Reference Index.  It features approximately 2,000  titles from some 100 international intergovernmental organizations, all published annually since 1983 through CIS' Index to International Statistics.



Shock and Vibration Digest (Ebsco)
 
Shock & Vibration Digest includes bibliographic records covering essential areas related to shock and vibration, including noise, vibration technologies, and other areas of key relevance to the discipline. The index contains more than 92,000 records, which are selected from the most important sources within the discipline.



SIPRI Arms Transfer Database (SIPRI)
 Searchable online database containing information on all international transfers of seven categories of major conventional weapons from 1950 to the most recent full calendar year.

Once you are into Web of Knowledge, click on Web of Science.  The Social Sciences Citation Index® in Web of Science provides access to current and retrospective bibliographic information, author abstracts, and cited references found in over 1,700 of the world's leading scholarly social sciences journals covering more than 50 disciplines. They also cover individually selected, relevant items from approximately 3,300 of the world’s leading science and technology journals. Dudley Knox Library’s subscription covers articles and papers published from 1898-present.



Staff College Automated Military Periodicals Index (SCAMPI)
Provides citations to articles on military and naval art and science, operational warfare, joint planning, national and international politics, and other areas researched by Joint Forces Staff College faculty, staff, and students.

Web of Knowledge (Web of Knowledge)
 
The website includes access to Web of Science (Science Citation Index 1956-present, Social Sciences Citation Index 1898-present, Conference Proceedings Citation Index - Science 1991-present, and Conference Proceedings Citation Index - Social Science & Humanities 1991-present) , Medline 1950-present, and Journal Citation Reports 2006-2010. It provides citation and tracking information on current and retrospective research and a current awareness tool. Cited references [footnotes and bibliographies] for all articles are captured and indexed, allowing tracing of the references and citation analysis. Includes access to some full-text articles.

With WorldCat (the OCLC Online Union Catalog) you can simultaneously search the catalogs of over 9000 libraries worldwide. WorldCat contains more than 50 million records in over 400 languages.



Worldwide Political Science Abstracts (ProQuest)
 
Worldwide Political Science Abstracts is building on the merged backfiles of Political Science Abstracts, published by IFI / Plenum, 1975-2000, and ABC POL SCI, published by ABC-CLIO, 1984-2000. The database provides citations, abstracts, and indexing of the international serials literature in political science and its complementary fields, including international relations, law, and public administration / policy.
