About this Page
If you are a Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) student or faculty member taking or teaching classes at NPS from an off campus
location, this page is for you. It explains how you can obtain library materials and use library resources and services.
Obtaining a Library Account
All NPS students, faculty, staff and contract workers are entitled to a library account. Library accounts are required to
borrow materials and to access licensed library resources (those with the Library logo [
] next to their names) from off campus.
Resident Students
Resident students can obtain a library account at the Circulation Desk, located in the Library lobby. Your military ID is
required.
Distance Students
Distance students who register in Python should receive an e-mail with their Library account information within one week.
Those who do not register in Python contact dlib@nps.edu to request a library account.
Blackboard and the Library
Many classes for Distributed Learning Students are offered via Blackboard, an online "learning system" that provides a environment
for classes to take place, virtually. For more information, see the Blackboard resources page. The Dudley Knox Library is linked directly from every Blackboard page.
Accessing Licensed Library Resources from Off Campus
Most NPS students, faculty or staff members can access those resources identified on any of the Library's web pages as "NPS
Domain Only" (those with the Library logo [
] next to their names) from off campus. For more information, please see our Proxy Server Information page.
When you click on an NPS Domain Only resource from off campus, you will be brought to a login screen and prompted for your
user name and password, which are provided when you receive your account information. If you do not know your user name or
password, please contact our circulation desk at circdesk@nps.edu or (831)656-2947.
Library Catalog (BOSUN)
Anyone can search BOSUN for books, theses, reports, journals and other materials that the Library owns or subscribes to. However,
a library account is required to borrow materials and for off-campus access to selected full-text documents linked in BOSUN.
Library Databases
Do you need to find journal articles, conference papers, government reports or other documents? The Databases page links to
a wide variety of tools that can help. Many are licensed for use only by NPS users. Click on the Search Databases Quick Link.
