Research Alert services are designed to keep researchers aware of current literature in many fields. These services can be set up to search regularly for new research articles as users specify, or can be used to provide the table of contents listings for issues of journals as they are published. Users may set up individual accounts for subscribed resources at Dudley Knox Library. ACM (Association of Computing Machinery)
The ACM Digital Library provides personalized services, including a Table of Contents (TOC) Service. Please note that the My Binders service is available only to individuals with an ACM membership. For TOC Service, go to ACM Digital Library then click on Personalized Services: Login required.
DTIC offers a service called Defense Technical Reports Automated Information List or TRAIL. TRAIL is a free electronic mailing list that automatically disseminates citations to DTIC's unclassified/unlimited technical reports recently added to the DTIC technical reports database. Reach TRAIL by selecting the Other Resources tab on DTIC's main page, the DTIC Resources and looking for Technical Reports Automated Information Lists. Begin by subscribing. You will be asked to provide your email address.

EBSCOHost Research Databases
The Alert option is part of "My EBSCOhost", where users can set up a personal account that can be used to save searches, retrieve and reuse them, and print them as needed. To save s search as an Alert that can be automatically run, click the Alert radio button. The Save Alert Screen appears. Enter a Name and Description for the Alert and choose options such as frequency.
Search engine Google has begun offering a service that allows users to set up and manage alerts. The URL for that feature is http://www.google.com/alerts
IEEE/IEE Electronic Library Online(IEEE Xplore)
Look for Alerts>Visit Alerts. To set up a new email alert account, enter your name and email address and click Submit. Instructions are provided.
To begin receiving Alerts, you must first set up a profile for yourself. Click "sign up" from the Ingenta home page. You must provide a name, email and a password of your choosing. Once you make a search, choose the "Search History" link at upper right. Click the Saved Searches tab, check the checkbox next to the desired search, then under Delete/move/alert items select Create Alert and GO. You Alerts will be listed on the Search Alerts tab.
To begin receiving email alerts, click on the My Account tab, then select My Saved Searches and Alerts. You must enroll to use the Saved Searches feature. A flash demo or PDF demo is available.
For information on this service, click on My News > Personal News at the left of the search screen. Select your preferred search method: Power Search of Search Forms. To begin, enter a search strategy in nexis.com. Review your results - if you would like to receive automatic updates for the entered search via email, Click Track in Personal News (linked at upper right). You will be asked to provide an email address for this service. Reminder: LexisNexis requires a password, available at the Research Assistance Desk. Passwords are changed quarterly.

LexisNexisReal Time News
For information on this service, click on My News > Real Time News at the left of the search screen. To begin, enter your email address and click GO. On the following screen, enter words of phrases to decscibe your topic, then click Search. Review your results, and if they seem pertinent, click Save Topic to add the search to your Real Time News page. Reminder: LexisNexis requires a password, available at the Research Assistance Desk.

To set up a new Alert, first run a search strategy in Mechanical Engineering Abstracts. Click Alerts. Login required. A saved Alert will be used to automatically search your selected databases for new content every week.

To set up a new Alert, first run a search strategy in NTIS. Click Alerts. Login required. A saved Alert will be used to automatically search your selected databases for new content every week.
PAIS (Public Affairs Information Service) Internationalvia CSA
To set up a new Alert, first run a search strategy in PAIS. Click Alerts. Login required. A saved Alert will be used to automatically search your selected databases for new content every week
Click on the Journals tab at top. Select Request Journal Alerts. Type in your e-mail address and click on Make or Change Selections. You can select journals and receive alerts for new content in them.
ProQuest offers Alerts for specific searches, and for publications. Both options begin with a search. On the Results page, click Set Up Alert. Complete the required information and click Save. You will see a confirmation page, summarizing your information. If the information is correct, click Done. Otherwise, you can click Delete this Alert to delete the alert.
Web of Science (All Web of Science databases offer this service)
A scholarly, multidisciplinary database which includes citation searching. Dudley Knox Library's subscription covers articles and papers published from 1980-present. To begin receiving table of contents lists, change the drop-down box at the top from ISI Web of Science to My Journal List and click Go. Register.
