Housing Options at NPS

1. Arrival / Temporary Quarters
Transient BOQ space is available for students arriving and detaching from NPS.  The International Programs Office will coordinate reservations with the BOQ for the first 30 days of a new student's stay at NPS provided there is space available. BOQ charge is $25.00 per night (no kitchen) and $35 per night (with kitchen). Maximum capacity per room is 4 people.  Suites which can accomodate 5-6 people are also available on a limited basis.  Our Navy Lodge is also available with room rates of $73.00 per night. If BOQ or Navy Lodge is unavailable, it is recommended that the student (and his family) be prepared to stay in a hotel for the first week or so while checking out the housing situation (average cost $75-$145 per night per room depending on location and season). Reservations can be made with RESORT TO ME at (800) 757-5646 or (831) 646-9250. This is an agency that will locate accommodations to fit individual family needs; all that is needed is to call, tell them how many people, preferred area, and preferred price range. (Best bet would be Monterey near NPS [also will be more affordable]. Obviously if you choose to stay (or live) in Pebble Beach or Carmel , prices will be considerably higher). Reservations need to be guaranteed with a credit card.

2. Permanent Quarters

PRIVATIZED (former government housing [Pinnacle])

Privatized military housing (formerly known as government housing), managed by Pinnacle Corporation, is available to all international students on a space available basis. Single Students/Geographic Bachelors are also eligible to live in privatized housing managed by Pinnacle. Privatized housing rent includes utilities (gas, electricity, and water).

The monthly rent for FMS students, married or single, living in privatized (government) housing, is $1519 per month.
The monthly rent for IMET students, married or single, receiving a U. S. living allowance is based on the Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) issued to U. S. military students. See chart below. If an IMET student is married, but is unaccompanied, he will only be reimbursed at the unaccompanied rate until such time as his family joins him.

The privatized housing rates for married/accompanied and married/unaccompanied or single international officers receiving an IMET Living Allowance are broken down in the chart below.

Basic telephone charge with no special services (i.e., call waiting, call forwarding, etc,) is approximately $22 per month. There are several long distance companies to choose from. The NPS Housing Welcome Center has established an excellent web site for reviewing rental options in Monterey. Check out the following site: http://www.dodreferral.com
