CONFLICT MANAGEMENT AND SELF ESTEEM FOR CHILDREN: This is a 4 week class for children ages 7-11 to learn ways to deal with anger and frustration more constructively. The class will promote self esteem. This class is great for kids displaying strong sibling rivalry and will conclude with an ice cream party. PROMOTING GROWTH AND SELF-ESTEEM FOR ADULTS: This is a 6 session group, focusing on the long term effects for those individuals that grew up in an alcoholic home, abusive environment, or other family dysfunction. Topics to be discussed are issues related to feelings, trust, improving communication, the adaptive and sometimes unhealthy patterns of communication within families, and the process of change. FRIDAY FUN AND TEEN GROUP: A support and educational group for adolescents, 6th through 9th grade, will meet on the first Friday of every month. Focus of the group will be on socialization and survival skills for young adolescents adjusting to a new community. We are hoping to have participants get involved in barbecues, sporting activities, and learn about community activities. KIDS ON THE MOVE: This workshop is for kids ages 5-12 that have relocated to or are relocating out of the Monterey Area. Call for dates and time. 12 WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR RELATIONSHIP: The focus of the calls will be on the various ways conflict does not get resolved or talked about in a relationship. We will review 6 strategies to resolve and prevent conflict in your relationship. The 2nd part of the class will emphasize ways to improve your level of intimacy and commitment with your partner. Couples are encouraged to attend and individuals are welcome. Call for dates and time. STRANGER DANGER SAFETY TIPS: This will be a 1 hour program for children from 1st grade to 5th grade. The focus of the talk will be on ways young children should handle themselves when they are approached by strangers and strategies to prevent abduction. Class will be held at the La Mesa Youth Center. SMOOTH MOVE WORKSHOP: This workshop is for personnel that have relocated to or are planning to relocate from the Monterey Area. Call for dates and times. TRANSITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (TAP SEMINAR): Service members and spouses within 18 months of separation/retirement are encouraged to attend this seminar. All classes will be held in Spanagel Hall, Room 101A at the Naval Postgraduate School. Call for the next class. OPTIMISTIC THINKING FOR CHILDREN: A 7 week class to be held at the POM Annex Chapel. A class and support group for children ages 6 to 11 on how to think more optimistically and gain greater self-confidence. The class will also benefit children who are planning to or have moved recently. The focus of the program will be on building self-esteem and confidence in children. ASSERTIVE TRAINING: We will explore the difference between passive, assertive and aggressive behavior and help you to better understand your style of communicating. We will also focus on overcoming feelings of powerlessness and shyness while teaching ways to express your anger assertively. This is a great class if you deal with people. Class is to be held at AISO Library on DLI. Call for dates and time. MAGIC 1,2,3 PARENTING CLASS: A class to help you sharpen your parenting skills. This program is for parents of children 2˝ to 12 years of age. Emphasis of the class will be on disciplining without nagging, yelling, or arguing. We will address discipline that is effective and ways to reinforce positive behavior. Call for dates and time. ANGER MANAGEMENT: This class will help individuals control and better manage their anger. We will discuss: (1) Anger Myths and Truths; (2) The Unhealthy Consequences of Anger; (3) Anger Cues and Self-Identification; (4) The ABC's of identification and change; (5) How to control your anger so it doesn't control you. Class will be at POM AISO Library. STRESS MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES AND YOUR WELLNESS: This class will focus on techniques to better cope with stress and reduce tension in your life. Participants will be asked to formulate a plan of action to reduce some of these stressors. Some relaxation and tension reduction exercises will be provided and a video viewed with helpful suggestions. 17 WAYS TO GET YOUR CHILD TO DO WHAT YOU WANT: During this class the following topics will be discussed: 1)Rewards, do they work?; 2)Setting realistic goals; 3)What are common misunderstandings; 4)How to be encouraging with your child; 5)Improving communication while strengthening the relationship with your child. SPOUSE ORIENTATION SEMINAR: Job hunting strategies will be covered and guest speakers will provide information on the following: Local Labor Market Briefing - by California Job Service EDD; Local Vocational & Technical Training Program - by Regional Occupational Program; Local Employment Agencies Service; Local Educational Opportunities; Information on job hunting strategies. Call for dates and times. FORGIVENESS AND PERSONAL GROWTH: This is a four week educational class for individuals who want to move on from their past. The focus of this group will be on: 1)What are the psychological benefits of being able to forgive others; 2)Why some people have difficulty forgiving others; 3)Reviewing the research on the health benefits of forgiveness and how anger adversely affects you; 4)Reviewing the mixed message given about forgiveness and what forgiveness is and is not. Participants will be given tools and asked to practice techniques to help implement the above material. Call for dates and times. CREDIT AND DEBT MANAGEMENT: Program objectives are to teach a wide range of financial skills focusing on credit and debt management. Being aware of the types and features of consumer credit, credit laws, secrets, the cost to you, the risk, and the obligation will help get the most out of your money. Broaden your knowledge about how to better manage debt answering such questions as can I and when can I afford additional debt, and should I consolidate my debts? Call for dates and times. LATCHKEY KIDS: This is a 1 hour class to emphasize safety issues for kids who go home alone or are occasionally at home alone. The program will emphasize what children should do in an emergency including getting help, and tips on handling phone calls.
