Certificate in Space Systems (Curriculum 273)
Space assets are essential to modern warfare. The Space Systems Certificate provides the foundation to understanding the integration of space capabilities across combined armed forces, involving networks, sensors, and weapons. The certificate course sequences covers MILSATCOM, remote sensing, physics of the space environment, and orbitology, providing knowledge, and insight to exploit the combat advantage provided by current and future space-based resources.
Knowledge and analytical skills acquired in the program will prepare students to advocate USN/DoD interests in significant National Security Space Organizations, drive participation in joint processes for space system architecture and requirements development, prioritize the resources necessary to formulate and defend operational requirements for space, and engage in partnerships with other military services and agencies, such as the National Security Agency (NSA), the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), and Defense Information Service Agency (DISA), to achieve naval space goals. |

Program Delivery Methods and Requirements
The following distributed learning delivery methods may be used for this program. If there are questions about these methods, please check the program announcements for details and/or contact the SSC Program Director.
Asynchronous
NPS Asynchronous classes are taken without any classroom attendance necessary. After registration and enrollment, you will be sent instructions on how to access the course material via Sakai. The web-based courses are paced week-to-week but students have great flexibility to do coursework at times of their choosing during each week. Courses are faculty led and allow interaction between instructor and other students.
The requirements for an asynchronous class can be found here.
Application Process
U.S. applicants who meet the prerequisite and eligibility requirements listed above must submit a complete application package to Admissions. A completed application package consists of an application (via the NPS online application system) and NPS receipt of official transcriptions of all undergraduate and previous graduate work to date, degree & non-degree. For further information about applying to NPS, please refer to the Admissions Packet Completion information page.
Tuition
Please refer to the Tuition Costs page regarding tuition, and book costs associated with this program.

NPS Follow-on Resident Program(s):
Space Systems Operations - Resident Degree Program (Curriculum 366)
The Space Systems Operations curriculum prepares the graduate to plan and manage military space systems and to develop the necessary requirements, strategy, and doctrine. Students will gain knowledge of and appreciation for military opportunities in space and acquire the practical and theoretical skills required for the execution of space-based operations. Included are both the space-based and terrestrial components of military systems employed for communications, surveillance, navigation, electronic warfare and environmental sensing.
For additional information regarding the content of the Space Systems Operations Degree Program, please visit: Space Systems Operations Curriculum (366).
Space Systems Engineering - Resident Degree Program (Curriculum 591)
The Space Systems Engineering program provides officers, through graduate education, with a comprehensive scientific and technical knowledge of military and Navy space systems. This curriculum is designed to equip officers with the theoretical and practical skills required to design and integrate military space payloads with other spacecraft subsystems. Graduates will be prepared by their education to design, develop and manage the acquisition of space communications, navigation, surveillance, electronic warfare and environmental sensing systems.
