Seminar Description:

This seminar marked the second time that the Center for Stabilization and Reconstruction Studies and the United States Institute of Peace collaborated in the delivery of an educational event focused on teaching negotiation, mediation and conflict resolution skills to members of US and foreign government civilian agencies, non-governmental organizations, inter-governmental organizations and armed forces.

Through lectures, panel discussions, group work and role-playing simulations, the seminar provided a forum for participants to share perspectives and compare experiences. Interaction among diverse participants with distinct but overlapping missions was a central aspect of program activities.

Participants in the seminar:

    • Enhanced their understanding of and professional network among the other post-conflict response communities;
    • Improved their cross-community and inter-organizational communication skills;
    • Improved their understanding of the strengths and limitations of conflict management styles;
    • Expanded their understanding and repertoire of negotiation/mediation skills and strategies;
    • Developed their capacity to build trust, identify shared objectives, and promote collaboration.

    Highlights, insights and proceedings from the seminar will be documented in a written report which will be posted on the CSRS website upon completion.
