Information Sharing in Insecure Environments

Co-sponsors:

Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Stability Operations, Washington, DC
International Organization for Migration, Geneva, Switzerland

Workshop Description:

May 21 - 25 CSRS conducted an educational workshop focused on information sharing between non-governmental organizations, armed forces, international organizations and government civilian agencies operating in insecure environments. The specific emphasis on information sharing arose from past CSRS events that identified this as one of the most critical yet challenging aspects of providing assistance in the field.

The workshop was co-sponsored by the International Organization for Migration and the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Stability Operations.

Workshop Objectives:

  • Identify benefits of information sharing (with a specific emphasis on assessment).
  • Identify the information needs of organizations for response planning and in order to perform analyses that support decision-making.
  • Evaluate strengths and limitations of current practices in meeting overlapping information needs for all stakeholders.
  • Identify what improvements in the information system could be made to meet the needs of multiple communities conducting assessments.
  • Develop an action plan to introduce improvements in information sharing systems across communities.
