New ID Cards

CSD Monterey has begun to issue the new Common Access Card (CAC) as the primary DOD ID Card.

These new cards will be issued as current NPS and DOD ID Cards expire or replacements become necessary.  All previously approved versions of NPS and DOD ID Cards will remain valid until they expire or replacements are issued.

The new ID card will be issued to Active Duty Uniformed Services Personnel and Selected Reserves; and DoD Civilian Employees (GS, WG, AD, and NAF).  Contractor personnel will not be issued the CAC until a need for an electronic card to gain physical access to controlled areas is required.  Family member, retirees, Disabled American Veterans, and Inactive Ready Reserve and Guard will not be issued the new CAC, they will continue to receive the standard DOD ID Card.

The following procedures are to be followed to obtain a CAC:

  • Military personnel will report to NPS or CSD Monterey ID Card Office and verify their information on DEERS.
  • NPS Civilian Personnel (GS, WG, AD, and NAF) will fill out Section I and II of DD Form 1172-2 (Application For Department of Defense Command Access Card DEERS Enrollment).  This form can be obtained and filled from this link (intranet only) .
  • Once Section I and II have been filled out, the form must be taken to their Sponsoring Office for verification and completion of Section III.  After Sponsoring Office completes Section III, the individual will proceed to NPS or CSD ID Card Section with the form for issuance of a CAC.  (Step by Step procedures on completing Sections I and II of the CAC Application Form can be found using this link (intranet only).

Please be aware that because of the encrypting the standard time to process a CAC is approximately 15 minutes.  Be assured that all the information of the CAC meets or exceeds the protection requirements of the privacy laws.  Printed information on the CAC is kept to a minimum. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Flag Admin Office (ext: 3972) or CSD Monterey (656-4070).
